Negreanu, Forrest Highlight Poker Hall of Fame Finalists

Hall of Fame Daniel Negreanu and Ted Forrest were two of the 10 players that were selected as finalists for the Poker Hall of Fame on Tuesday.

Negreanu leads this year’s new nominees, reaching the final ballot in his first year of eligibility. The Canadian is generally considered to be a lock to join the Hall of Fame. He has $ 30 million in lifetime earnings, six World Series of Poker bracelets and is a two-time WSOP player of the year. He also has two World Poker Tour titles to his name, and is considered one of poker’s greatest ambassadors.

Five nominees have been finalists before:
–Mike Matusow, a four-time bracelet winner with more than $ 9 million in tourney cashes.
–Huck Seed, a four-time bracelet winner — including a WSOP main event championship — with more than $ 7 million in tournament cashes.
–Jennifer Harman, a two-time bracelet winner with 12 WSOP final tables to her name, making her one of the most successful female poker players in history.
–Chris Bjorin, a Swede with two WSOP bracelets and more than $ 5 million in tournament cashes.
–Humberto Brenes, a Costa Rican with $ 6 million in tourney cashes who is third on the all-time WSOP cashes list.

The new nominees include:
–Ted Forrest, a six-time WSOP bracelet winner who earned his most recent title this year.
–Bruno Fitoussi, a Frenchman with more than $ 2 million in cashes, known best for bringing Texas hold’em to his home country.
–Bob Hooks, one of the original Texas Rounders, a WSOP main event runner-up and the first cardroom manager of the Horseshoe in Las Vegas.
–Jack McClelland, a noted tournament director best known for his time with the WSOP and at the Bellagio.

Full bios on all of the players can be found here.

The 10 finalists were picked after a public nomination process held at WSOP.com this summer, and after vetting by the Poker Hall of Fame Governing Council. From the 10 finalists, either one or two players will be picked for induction by the 21 living Hall of Famers and a panel of 20 media members.

The 2014 inductions will once again be held in conjunction with the WSOP Main Event final table festivities at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. The ceremony will take place on Sunday, November 9. The new inductees are expected to be announced in October.

The criteria for induction is below, as listed at WSOP.com:

A player must have played poker against acknowledged top competition
Be a minimum of 40 years old at time of nomination
Played for high stakes
Played consistently well, gaining the respect of peers
Stood the test of time
Or, for non-players, contributed to the overall growth and success of the game of poker, with indelible positive and lasting results.
